How HoSt Group makes learning directly contribute to the energy transition

HoSt Group is growing fast. And where there is growth, so grows the need to structure learning, development and knowledge sharing.

Together with UP learning, this innovative and entrepreneurial organisation is building a solid learning foundation — giving rise to the HoSt Group Academy.

Growth calls for structure in learning and development

HoSt Group is a global market leader in renewable energy technology. With over 650 colleagues, spread across 8 offices and active in 45 countries, the organisation works daily towards its mission: drastically reducing CO2 emissions in industry, with the ambitious goal of saving 25 million tonnes of CO2 by 2032.

“”Learning was already happening all the time in practice,” says Natascha. “But as we grew, there was a growing need for more structure in learning, development and knowledge sharing. By further developing our academy, we want to deploy learning more purposefully to make an impact on the business.”

The first step was laying a foundation: a clear vision and a roadmap. Only then came the selection of a learning platform that could grow with the organisation’s ambitions.

The search for an LMS started with practice, not with a tool

To make that move, HoSt started with an organisational needs analysis.

“Together with a multidisciplinary project team, including an HR Advisor, Commissioning Manager and Process Engineer, we developed concrete use cases. Think of onboarding new employees, skills learning paths and mandatory safety training.”

Flexibility and international usability made the difference

Drawing on their vision, the identified needs and an extensive selection process with 15 providers from around the world, the choice fell on Docebo, with UP learning as implementation partner.

According to Natascha, the flexibility of the learning platform was the best fit for the organisation.

“Our organisation is international and quite complex. You do not want a system that forces you into a fixed structure. With Docebo, colleagues use the platform in their own language and log in anywhere via the mobile app.”

That flexibility is also reflected in how the platform is set up.

“We add our own fields such as work location, whether someone is new, and the job profile with additional tasks. This allows us to automatically create groups and offer targeted learning activities.”

This also applies to compliance and safety, themes not to be underestimated in a technical environment.

“”We link certifications to internal or external training. With one click, we can see whether everything is in order.

“There is a lot of knowledge within the organisation. We are now making that visible and accessible.”

Knowledge sharing and onboarding make learning personal

New colleagues will soon start with their own onboarding page in the platform.

“For the first three months, we will guide them in a structured way. After that, they choose their own learning path, tailored to their prior knowledge. That is how learning becomes personal and relevant. gaan we ze gericht begeleiden. Daarna kiezen ze zelf hun leerpad, passend bij hun voorkennis. Zo wordt leren persoonlijk en relevant.”

But the platform does more than just offer learning journeys.

There is a lot of knowledge within the organisation. We are now making that visible and accessible. For example, we create channels for our products and link internal experts to them. That way, colleagues can ask questions and share knowledge.”

One seemingly small detail makes all the difference.

“The search function searches the entire platform, including the content. That way, colleagues quickly and easily find what they need.”

Phased implementation delivers quick insights and results

Together with UP learning, HoSt Group opted for a phased implementation.

“We started with a soft launch for 28 users. That allowed us to test what works and what could be improved. In the first month, 75% logged in and 54% completed a course. That exceeded our expectations.”

The responses have been positive, particularly regarding ease of use, the mobile app and the overview of certifications.

“By working with a pilot group, we quickly gained insight into usage and adoption. That helps us to improve in a targeted way.”

The approach is paying off. After the soft launch, two full business units went live. From there, the rollout continues step by step.

“The collaboration with UP learning also helps. They think along from a practical perspective and help us move forward.”

Step by step towards one central learning environment

The rollout continues and the learning offering grows.

“We have only just started, but we can already see the added value. Our ambition is clear: one place for everything related to learning and development within HoSt Group, soon including AI and skills management. That is how our academy contributes to organisational goals such as performance, innovation and growth. Learn what matters & make it count.”
